From the Candidate:
We continue to build momentum. With just over six weeks until the election we had a weekend full of events. First we started with a fundraiser Friday evening and moved on to a visit by Congressman Jack Murtha on Saturday and another fundraiser, this time with Senator Ken Salazar on Sunday.
People like Congressman Murtha and Senator McCain, people who have served in uniform and defended the country, know how important it is to have a serious debate about policies that put our military people in harm’s way. I may not agree with their proposals, but I agree we must have the debate and must not attack their service to this great country!
Our message is getting the attention it deserves. Americans are concerned about the future of our families and the strength of our nation.
Homeland Defense must be addressed, not with speeches but by implementing the recommendations of the 911 Commission Report as a minimum. The Congress must do its job and hold the administration accountable for actions in Iraq and Afghanistan to include hearings on where the money that Congress appropriated has been spent. We must improve our global relations with other countries to ensure the flow of information we need to defend ourselves from the terrorists. I am committed to fully funding the Veterans Administration and will introduce legislation to make sure we as a nation meet our obligations to all veterans.
Economic Security means getting the Federal budget under control. The balance of the economy between the service and manufacturing sectors is dangerously shifted toward service industries. Our national debt is held by nations that are not sympathetic to our goals and values.
Healthcare Security is fundamental to global competition. I am committed to introducing legislation that will allow all agencies of the Federal government to negotiate prices with big pharma as a single entity.
Retirement Security means getting Social Security back to a separate, lock box account and ensuring its full funding for existing benefits. Actual retirement accounts must be protected from corporate looting and be transportable to allow workers to move between jobs without penalties.
Education Security is the foundation of our future. Education is an investment in our children as well as global competition. I will support the funding of all Federal mandates that affect local school boards.
Thank you all for your support so far, now we have the final push ahead of us and I am counting on your continued support. Press Coverage
